The objective of this 2 hour session on Food Processing is to provide a platform to discuss the investment opportunities and the unique benefits provided by Odisha for development of Food Processing Sector.
The Indian Agro and Food Processing sector contributes for 14% of manufacturing GDP, 13% of India’s exports and 6% of total industrial investments. Food Processing Sector has been growing at 8.50%, much faster than the agricultural sector indicating the greater proportion of raw material is being processed. About 37% of the food produce in India is processed at present. Of the total workforce of 107 lakhs, around 15 lakhs are employed in the registered (organized) sector.
Odisha has ample resources that can be tapped by the investors. It is the 3rd largest producer of cashew nuts, 4th largest producer of Vegetables and Shrimps, 5th largest producer of Coconuts, 6th largest producer of Rice, 9th largest producer of fish, 5% of India’s spices are produced in the State. It is the major producer of Paddy, Oil Seeds, Potato, Corn, Chilly, Ginger, Turmeric and Sugarcane.
The key growth driver of Odisha for this sector are : Presence of Food Processing Infrastructure projects like Mega Food Parks in Rayagada and Deras, Khurda; presence of scientific and technical institutes like OUAT, CRRI, CIFA; Ample storage network and facilities; Robust fish and sea food network;Presence of Proximity Demand Centres like W.B, Jharkhand, Chhatisgarh and A.P for supplying poultry, fish and sea food and ASEAN Countries for sea food exports; Robust, dedicated and entrepreneur friendly Food Processing Policy and its guidelines.
During the session, prominent officials from Ministry of Food Processing, MSME Department, pioneer representatives of the Industry will participate in the brain storming session and deliberate on the outlook& outreach andopportunities for investment in Odisha for Large as well as, MSM Enterprises. The key topics of discussion shall include :
