Logistics and development of overall infrastructure is of high importancefor economic growth and growthin exports in the global supply chains to generate employment. While Odisha’s passenger and freight mobility sectors areundergoing transformation, the logistics sector is posed for rapid growth and is expected to bethe engine that drives the economy to the next level.

A coastline of 480 kms, mineral rich hinterland along with presence of multiple navigable riverine estuaries provides the State an ideal platform for port-led infrastructure development and shape into a global logistics hub for movement of not just minerals but also consumer goods. The Govt. is rightly aligned in its approach to enhance the logistics profile through development of Ports,Railways, Roads, Riverine Ports and Inland Waterways within the State and thus provide impetus to the State’s industrialization. Currently, Paradip, Dhamra and Gopalpur are among the deepest draft ports along the northeast coast of India. There are 14 potential sites for port-led industrialization which can act as marine logistics gateway to the landlocked hinterlands of the country.

Odisha, with a railway length of 2606.67 kms is aligned towards cargo movement from mining and manufacturing hubs. Odisha has taken key steps by entering into JVs and SPVs,project financing, free project land and constant monitoring &coordination to expedite the augmentation the rail network in the State.

‘Make in Odisha Conclave 2.0, 2018’,the 2nd installment of the State’s flagship global investors’ meet, aims to attract the investors in the manufacturing and infrastructure sectors. Efficient logistics is a cornerstone for the continuation of Odisha’s economic development.Ongoing “Make in Odisha”demand high levels of logistical efficiencies i.e.goods must not only be produced butthey must also be efficiently transported to markets at reasonable prices. Odisha’sevolving multi-modal transportation framework, industry focused processes and implementation of policies for seamless movement of goods with removal of check gates, transit-oriented logistic infrastructure development and GST, gives significantpush to invest and improve infrastructure capacity connectivity andcost advantage for Global players in the sector.

The objective of this 2-hour session on ‘Logistics and Infrastructure’ is to provide a platform to discuss and deliberate on the opportunities, unique advantages in investing and development of alogistics ecosystem which can propel the growth of Odisha. Broadly, the session will focus on potential solutions falls into three categories: (a) physical assets, such as infrastructure and equipment; (b) policy reforms; and, (c) operational, technological and technical improvements with focus on:

  • Improvement of infrastructure for transportation and effective inventory management across the State in the form of intermodal corridors and logistic parks thereby connecting the mineral hinterland to the ports on the coastline.
  • Focus on port modernization and capacity augmentation, efficient and speedy evacuation, port-led industrialization and developmentof coastal corridors; thereby integrating the State’s development roadmap with Sagarmala initiative of GoI.
  • Optimization of transportation infrastructure through, induction of next generation technologies, development of industrial / economic corridors, innovative models as well as leveraging auxiliary assets.

During the session, prominent officialsfrom Centre and State Government and Captains of the industry will deliberate on the outlook for the sector and the opportunities in the sector.

Global Industry Representatives involved across the value chain of Logistics & Infrastructure and allied fields areinvited to attend and participate in the deliberations.
